Undercover: Emma Hack, NYC

19 February - 12 March 2014
Overview

Rebecca Hossack Gallery is proud to present Emma Hack: Undercover, a solo retrospective exhibition featuring works by Australian artist Emma Hack. Having gained international renown for her collaboration with Gotye on the music video for his Grammy-winning "Somebody That I Used To Know," Hack continues to push the bounds of her unique body camouflage style of painting.

The exhibition will commence with an opening reception on Wednesday, February 19 from 6-8pm. As part of this special event, Rebecca Hossack Gallery is excited to announce that Emma Hack will showcase a live painted subject in the gallery. This performance piece will provide rare insight into the extraordinary technique and vision behind her mystical photographs.

Using photography as a medium for capturing her painted subjects, Hack challenges her audience to find the person she has masterfully concealed amidst a mosaic of Moroccan tiles, sunlit forest, or intricate geometric pattern. These live body paintings, later captured through photography, can take anywhere from eight to 15 uninterrupted hours.

Undercover will feature a retrospective look at the artist's wide body of work, highlighting series such as Evolution, Treasured Tiles, Mirrored Whispers, and Birds of Prey, among others. New works from 2013 will also debut in the exhibition.

Having exhibited extensively in Australia since 1999, Hack has had over 30 solo exhibitions worldwide. This will be her first solo exhibition in New York.
