Helen Pankhurst in Conversation with Nikoleta Sekulovic

2 July 2026
Overview

A special Conversazione bringing together author, activist and women's rights campaigner Helen Pankhurst and acclaimed contemporary artist Nikoleta Sekulovic for an intimate discussion on art, activism, legacy, and the continuing fight for equality, marking the unveiling of Sekulovic's first-ever oil painting: a portrait of Sylvia Pankhurst —pioneering suffragette, socialist, anti-fascist, humanitarian, artist, and grandmother of Helen Pankhurst.

The conversation explored the enduring relevance of Sylvia Pankhurst's life and work, and how art can serve as a bridge between history and urgent contemporary causes. Helen Pankhurst reflected on her grandmother's extraordinary legacy and the unfinished work of securing equal representation and opportunity. The portrait was exhibited during the event, with 10% of the final sale value donated to Centenary Action, the cross-party initiative hosted by CARE International UK and convened by Helen Pankhurst to advance a more diverse and gender-equal Parliament.

Limited edition prints of the portrait are available through Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, with proceeds supporting Centenary Action. Established to continue the legacy of the suffragette movement, the initiative champions greater representation and gender equality in public life.
