Martini Series : Jason Shulman
The Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery presents Martini Series by British artist Jason Shulman.
In this series Shulman reimagines the iconic martini glass through the prism of the classic 1933 King Kong movie.
This display at the new Billy Reid atelier on 5th Avenue is the latest exhibition in Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery’s ongoing partnership with the award-winning American fashion house.
'For me, there is a visual and emotional similarity between a drinker and their Martini and Kong and his lemon-haired beauty. Just as some drinkers brood over their love-object, so does Kong. For him, Ann Darrow (Fay Wray) is the sole object of desire. In the first half of the film she’s strung up - her arms in a V shape above her head; literally making the shape of a Martini glass. In the second half, she's in his hand, pawed and obsessed over'. – Jason Shulman
