Artworks: T. Torao

1 - 28 July 1989 London
Overview

Japanese artist T. Torao delves into the depths of our collective unconcious in his series of monoprints at the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery. His crumbling archetypical figures are built up with the help of a random selection of images collected from journals like the National Geographic Magazine. T. Torao then collages them and prints and draws over them, building patchwork figures of some considerable menace, Samurai perhaps, Vikings or Spacemen.

'I get into the narrow space between the exterior and the interior of my mind, and watch the scenes of conflict and fight'. Sharp details are pulled out of the soft ectoplasm with sudden and surprising impact. Wild lines are scribbled passionately over.'
