REVISIONS at Whitby Museum: Made by the Warlpiri of Central Australia and Patrick Waterhouse Curated by Rebecca Hossack

10 July - 5 October 2025
Overview

To mark thirty-seven years of championing Aboriginal art, Rebecca Hossack curated a special exhibition at Whitby Museum — bringing Aboriginal artists to the town where Captain Cook trained and launched his voyages, in a powerful act of cultural return and visual storytelling.

Over the past decade, Warlpiri artists from Central Australia, working with British artist Patrick Waterhouse, have reimagined colonial maps, flags, photographs, and archival material — correcting historical omissions and giving voice to ancestral stories passed down through generations.

Featuring rising contemporary Warlpiri artists alongside participants from the Revisions project, the exhibition highlights practices rooted in a profound connection to land and kinship, reaffirming identity, belonging, and the continuity of culture and ancestral knowledge across generations.
