Judy Greenie Purvis Kngwarreye is an Anmatyerr woman and accomplished Aboriginal artist from the Utopia region of Central Australia. Born in 1962, she is a proud custodian of Alhalkere Country — land of deep cultural, spiritual, and ancestral significance.Judy Greenie Purvis Kngwarreye is the great-niece of Emily Kam Kngwarray (c. 1910–1996), one of Australia’s most celebrated contemporary Aboriginal artists. Through her luminous, intricately layered works, she carries forward millennia-old women’s lore, preserved and passed down through storytelling and visual expression.Supported by the Utopia Art Centre at Arlparra Homeland, Judy Greenie Purvis Kngwarreye works within an artistic community that sustains and shares cultural knowledge. Her practice both echoes the visual traditions of her ancestors and evolves them — offering a deeply personal connection to those who came before her while forging her own distinctive path in contemporary Aboriginal art.
